This panel explores how diversity and inclusion in the edit room is vital to your participants/characters, your story, and your project as a whole. The Panelists, all editors, will discuss how to be an ally. We will explore best practices for inclusion, how to support and uplift minority talent, and more methods to help achieve equity in our industry.

Panelist bios
Michaelle McGaraghan
Michaelle is an Emmy nominated film editor based in the San Francisco Bay Area, who has spent the past 12 years collaborating with influential filmmakers such as Marc Smolowitz, Michael Ardnt, Pratibha Parmar and Jacqueline Olive. Her work has screened all over the world including, SXSW, PBS, MTV, and Disney+ and she is a Sundance Art of Editing fellow. As a member of the Alliance of Documentary Editors steering committee, she is committed to equity for editors from all backgrounds in the documentary industry.
Jason Alarcón
Jason Alarcón is a film editor based in San Francisco. He discovered his passion after completing a short documentary about his Peruvian father. Since graduating from Columbia University, he has edited numerous shorts and trailers, and has assisted many projects, including Oscar-nominated How to Survive a Plague and the Emmy Award-winning Independent Lens series on PBS. He was a 2020 Sundance Art of Editing fellow, and is currently editing a documentary series. Jason has found his passion in empowering LGBTQ+ and other underrepresented voices through media.
Ina Adele Ray
Ina Adele Ray (aka Adele) is a media-maker of Vietnamese and Scots-Irish American descent. She has worked in film and video production in both the commercial and non-profit worlds as a producer, director, and editor for over 20 years to support her passion for new technology, experimental media, and personal storytelling. She is now an Executive Producer for MyHealthTeam in San Francisco, and serves on the board of Re-Present Media. Adele produced, directed, and edited a short VR documentary called "The Red Room Project." She has an MA in Media Studies from the New School University (New York, NY), and has taught at the New School, NYU, Parsons, Eugene Lang College, and Berkeley City College.
